This historic cemetery is the resting place for an impressive number of Revolutionary War Soldiers. Thought to be buried here are the remains of those patriots who fought in our War of Independence:  
Moses Steele, a Mecklenberg County North Carolina Planter, bought 225 acres of the 4,000 acre land grant of Thomas Gillespie.
Moses Steele gave part of that land for this cemetery

As of July 23, 2001, There is an additional 96 graves that are unmarked that has been confirmed by a private licensed archaeologist with the possibility of more after a formal archaeology survey by the State of Tennessee Archaeologist.  To date, this brings the total to 124 graves located in the cemetery.
